“mind the Gap Cap”

The art of context

Strategy
for a tunnel takeover

Role: Copy Director

Working closely with media buyers, we didn't just buy space; we bought a specific cultural moment. By identifying the precise window of the January 2025 price cap announcement, we secured a footfall tunnel at St. Pancras to intercept commuters exactly when energy costs were top-of-mind, i.e at the start of a new year.

Context is King

The campaign was built on a contextual play on the iconic "Mind the Gap" announcement—a phrase synonymous with the London commute. By mirroring this age-old station staple, we bridged the gap between the physical environment and E.ON Next’s flagship Pledge tariff.

The Creative Hook

To complete the immersion, we mirrored the station’s auditory playbook, creating familiarity and simultaneously going easy on early morning eardrums before the coffees have kicked in.

We wrote and produced a custom announcement that mimicked the classic train announcer voice to stop commuters in their tracks and reinforce the brand and its message into lugholes, for those too busy to even glance sideways.

THE MULTI-SENSORY NARRATIVe

A familiar voice for the audio journey.

Messaging hierarchy:

Hero: Beat the price cap and save with us.

Wrapper: Mind the Cap!

Secondary: Start your year on the right track.

Tertiary: Hear it from our happy savers.

CTA: Arrive at savings at e.on next.com/save

Big space, for
Real Impact.

To assert the campaign’s influence on the London commute, we took over Europe’s largest outdoor advertising space: the Waterloo IMAX.

By wrapping this iconic 360-degree landmark in our "Beat the price cap" narrative, we didn’t just add reach—we added clout.

This was the perfect power play to compliment St. Pancras , creating a loop of brand recall between the underground and
the most prominent skyline in the city outside the hub of Waterloo Station and visible across the Thames.

Following this heavily commuter targeted campaign, the results from our subsequent market research (via The Verve) provided genuine vindication
for the marketing planning and creative executions.
